Authorities Warn of Increasing Fake Travel Company Scams During Peak Summer Season
The Ministry of Public Security has issued a warning about the rising trend of fake travel companies and resorts impersonation to scam citizens during this summer, as the number of tourists surges. With the 2025 summer travel season now at its peak, the demand for flight bookings, package tours, hotels, and resorts has skyrocketed, and scammers have taken advantage of this trend by impersonating reputable travel agencies.
These scammers deceive people by posting advertisements on the internet, claiming to offer booking services for tours and rooms, only to swindle them out of their money. A more sophisticated and alarming scheme has been uncovered in An Giang, where two cases of property appropriation have been reported in just a few days. According to reports, the scammers call the victims’ families, threaten them, and demand a ransom, a form of kidnapping for ransom.

The Ministry of Public Security has noted a rise in such cases, especially during peak travel seasons. Citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution when making travel bookings online and to verify the authenticity of travel companies and service providers before making any payments. Individuals are also urged to be aware of their surroundings and the security situation in areas they are visiting to avoid falling victim to such scams.
To avoid similar situations, people can verify information through official Ministry of Public Security channels and reputable travel agencies listed on the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s website. Citizens are also encouraged to report any suspicious activities or cases of scams to the local authorities for immediate assistance.
This rising trend highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between authorities and the public to combat such crimes effectively. By staying informed and taking cautious steps when engaging in online transactions, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of becoming victims of these sophisticated scams.
